موجز عن البحث:

Cloud computing has the potential to play a major role in addressing inefficiencies and make a fundamental contribution to the growth and competitiveness of enterprises mainly for SMEs. By adopting cloud computing services SMEs will be able to obtain the latest technology, without the need for upfront cost. This paper explores the perception of cloud computing from an SME stance. Motivations, requirements, and concerns surrounding the adoption of cloud computing are discussed. A survey of 300 SMEs conducted in the UK shows an interest in exploiting cloud services. However, SMEs have shown concerns with regards to security and vendor lock-in. These concerns could have influenced the speed of cloud computing adoption. The findings are expected to assist SMEs in their adoption of cloud computing services; they may also inform service providers with respect to end-users’ concerns.

SMEs’ Perception of Cloud Computing: Potential and Security

موجز عن المشاركة:

New paradigm for emerging technology in the computing and IT industries. Cloud computing offers a new pathway for business agility and supports a faster time to market by offering ready-to-consume cloud-based IT services. SMEs can wisely take advantage of the cloud computing services, without the need for upfront costs. The perception of cloud computing from an SME stance is explored. The potential and concerns surrounding the adoption of cloud computing are discussed. A survey of SMEs conducted in the UK by the authors shows SMEs interests in exploiting the cloud computing services, but there are still some concerns with regards to security and vendor lock-in. This could have affected the speed of cloud computing being adopted.

Migration to Cloud Computing- The Impact on IT Management and Security

ملخص المشاركة:

Adoption has had a considerable impact on organisations, particularly Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), not only by increasing the efficiency of acquiring IT resources, but also on IT management roles and security. In this paper, we discuss the impact that cloud computing is having on IT management roles by examining redundant and emerging roles. Further, since the emergence of cloud computing, security has been one of the main concerns for cloud users. Therefore, security of cloud computing from user’s and security professionals’ perspectives is explored and related issues discussed. Finally, issues related to migration to cloud computing, as well as security were explored through interviews of IT managers, security professionals, and cloud technical professionals.

Migration to Cloud Computing: A Decision Process Model

ملخص المشاركة:

Migration to the cloud is an increasingly complex process that requires consideration of a wide range of factors. This paper proposes a model to aid the decision making process for migrating organisations’ IT resources to cloud-based services. The model, particularly includes consideration of business intelligence as well as design phases which have been neglected by existing decision support systems. Six main steps are identified and the tasks to be performed at each step, and their interaction with the knowledge base are discussed. These provide a structure that systematically guide decision makers through the main tasks to ensure an effective cloud decision.
