The emergence of Vehicular Ad Hoc
Networks has made effective communications between vehicle and infrastructure
possible. Such systems enable the provision of many services in the
automobile environment, including safety, traffic management and monitoring,
and comfort. Moreover, there are many wireless communication technologies
that have been developed and exclusively designed for Vehicular Networks to
enable the distinct characteristics of such networks to be effectively
implemented. Dedicated Short Range Communication is one wireless
communication technology, amongst others, that has been developed for this
purpose. Intersection collision warning applications have attracted wide
attention as a potential way to improve vehicle safety at intersections.
Accidents at or near to intersections account for the highest percentage of
total accidents rate. In this paper, an investigation of vehicular networks
and wireless communication technologies that support such networks is
summarized as information about the implementation of potential safety
applications. This paper also investigates effective criteria for designing a
low-cost intersection collision warning application that will effectively
improve vehicle safety at intersections.

Over the last decade, the development
of IEEE 802.11a which referred to as Local Area Network (LAN) standard is
rapidly advancing. This is due to the limitation and what Orthogonal
Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), which is used in the heart of LAN standard,
susceptible to like carrier frequency offset and hence higher Bits Error Rate
(BER). In this paper, the performance of IEEE 802.11a based on a
sub-frequency band algorithm was investigated and tested over Additive White
Gaussian Noise and Rician channels and under different Doppler frequency
effects. The proposed system was investigated over the physical layer of IEEE
802.11a. Within the transmitter, the data vector of 64-bits is divided into
three equal vectors of 21 bits each, with the last bit discarded. Each vector
was then processed by fast Fourier transform block, with the output of each
block processed by a proposed algorithm and then the total vector of length
64-bits converted to a time domain signal via the inverse fast Fourier
transform. Within the receiver, the inverse procedure is used to recover the
transmitted signals. The results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms
the standard OFDM model in terms of Bit Error Rate (BER) versus Signal to
Noise Ratio (SNR).

Over the last three decades the demand
for wireless communications has increased dramatically. Consequently, the
need for adapting such a demand has also increased putting pressure on
scientist and researchers to develop more advanced techniques that are capable
of handle such a demand. However, the bandwidth limitation increased the
pressure on developers as it is the focus point and band limited of any
communication system. During the 1970s scientists came up with Orthogonal
Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) technology with the use of Fast Fourier
Transform (FFT) which was remarkable discovery at that time as it saves up to
50% of bandwidth. Since then OFDM is the adapted technology in most of
communication standards including DVB-Ts, LAN, MAN, Wi-Fi, WiMAX and VANET.
Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT) was developed due to the need for
analyzing the signal in time-frequency domain in order to visualize the
features of any signal. However, due to the fact that this technique is time
limit ed and localized due to the usage of fixed time sliding window. The
discovery of Wavelet transform is a result of the need for further
development from the limitation of Fourier Transform (FT) and STFT. It is
being used now in several applications across signal and image processing,
i.e. image and video compression, watermarking and medical applications. This
paper suggests the use of Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) to modulate
signals for transmission. Orthogonal Wavelet Division Multiplex (OWDM) is
proposed and DVB-T standard is used for baseline comparison with OFDM system.
It is shown that OWDM modulation technique could save up to 25% of the
bandwidth over conventional OFDM system. Investigating this brand new technology
could open a new window for new modulation technique with lower complexity,
bandwidth conservation, flexibility and cost effectiveness.

to be a significant challenge and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex has
proven to be a popular technology. The discovery of the wavelet transform,
while mainly used in image processing applications, has led to a recently
proposed, innovative new modulation technique called Orthogonal Wavelet
Division Multiplex. This paper looks at the application of different families
of wavelet as applied to digital terrestrial television.

A Novel Transmission Scheme for Wireless Communications Using Wavelet Transform

The demand for efficient wireless
communication systems has increased dramatically over the years. Orthogonal
Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) technology, based on the use of Fast
Fourier Transforms (FFT), was introduced during the 1970’s, leading to bandwidth
savings of up to 50%. Since then, OFDM has been adopted in most communication
standards including DVB-T, MAN and VANET. The introduction of multiresolution
Wavelet transforms in late 1980’s and early 1990’s, which unlike Fourier
transforms are adaptive and localised in both time (or space) and frequency,
has revolutionised the way signals are processed. This research suggests the
use of Discrete Wavelet Transforms (DWT) to modulate signals for
transmission, instead of the classical FFT approach. An Asymmetric Orthogonal
Wavelet Division Multiplex (AOWDM) scheme is proposed and further
investigated. The DVB-T standard is used for baseline comparison between the
AOWDM and OFDM systems.

Issues surrounding wireless

optimizing bandwidth usage has always been considered to be one of the most
significant challenges. The discovery of the wavelet transform has opened up
a number of potential applications from image compression to watermarking and
encryption. In the past, work has been done to investigate the potential of
using wavelet transforms within the communication space. This paper will
further investigate a recently proposed, innovative, modulation technique,
Orthogonal Wavelet Division Multiplex, which utilizes the wavelet transform
opening a new avenue for an alternative modulation scheme with some
interesting potential characteristics.

Impact of PV Array Emulator on Power
Quality of PV Inverter Compared to a Real PV Array

One of the greatest challenges is
sustainable energy production. As fossil fuels are depleted, the search for
different energy sources becomes increasingly urgent. Therefore, the
security, affordability, sustainability, and reliability to future demands to
generate power systems for the long-term that are flexible and resilient are
required. Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) is very important criteria to
evaluate power quality in the grid connected inverter which is known as a
Photovoltaic (PV) inverter. The THD of the output voltage and current of the
PV inverter should comply with the required criteria of the IEEE-1547
standard. Due to variation of the solar energy with changing in weather
conditions, the generated powers have intermittency which can cause the many
problems in distribution power and customer such as increase heating of the
distribution transformers and wires an example.
The power quality of the output voltage
and current of the commercial PV inverter is investigated after designing the
Photovoltaic Array Emulator (PVAE) and compared to a real photovoltaic array.
The numerical model of the solar system includes the photovoltaic, the grid
connected inverter and its controller along with the grid is presented. The
power quality of the commercial PV inverter improves with the PVAE compared
to an actual photovoltaic array. However, this improvement of power quality
does not comply with the IEEE-1547 standard, and therefore, the use a
bidirectional inverter with battery storage to improve the generated power of
the solar system is proposed. The proposed method can provide fast active and
reactive power to the load with a minimum THD of the output current to 0.64%.
