موجز عن البحث: | Introduction: Kangaroo care (KC) is known as an effective intervention to improve the development of preterm babies. However, despite the evidence, the global implementation of KC remains low. Thus, there is a need to assess the existing literature from health care providers (HCPs’) and parents’ preceptive toward KC.
Objective: This mixed review aimed to answer: Q1: What are the health care providers’ perceptions, experiences, knowledge of, and attitudes to kangaroo care of preterm babies in hospital settings? Q2: What are the experiences of parents with the practice of kangaroo care for preterm babies? Q3: What are the level of parents’ satisfaction toward Kangaroo care? Method: A comprehensive search of the MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, MIDIRS, and ASSIA databases will be conducted. Searches for studies from global health literature databases and grey literature engines will be performed. Two main keywords (‘Kangaroo care’ or skin-to-skin care and ‘preterm’) will be used. Studies will be included if they focused on HCPs’ or parents’, reported parental satisfaction, or were conducted in hospital settings. Only English or officially translated to English studies will be included. Studies will be synthesised using parallel-results convergent integrated design. The MMAT 2018 will be was used for quality assessment. Conclusion: This review will support the KC practice and its implementation in preterm babies. |

عنوان المشاركة: | Mixed Methods Systematic Review: Parents’ and Healthcare Providers’ Perceptions, Experiences, Knowledge of, and Attitudes to Kangaroo Care of Preterm Babies in Hospital Settings |
ملخص المشاركة: | Background:
Kangaroo care (KC) is universally known as an effective intervention to improve the development of preterm infants. However, despite the evidence, the global implementation of KC remains low.
Aims: The review aimed to answer the following questions: :1) What are parents’ and healthcare providers’ perceptions, experiences, knowledge of, and attitudes to KC of preterm babies in hospital settings? 2) To what extent are parents satisfied with kangaroo care?
Methods: A systematic search was conducted to identify relevant quantitative and qualitative studies. Studies were synthesized using parallel-results convergent integrated design. The MMAT 2018 was used for quality assessment. Results: Thirty-five studies were included. This review identified that HCPs were generally knowledgeable about KC. In contrast parents had limited information about KC. Furthermore, it seems both HCPs’ and parents’ had positive perceptions and attitudes toward KC globally. However, there was a lack of evidence on parental satisfaction that are associated with KC.
Conclusions: While HCPs’ know about KC, parents’ knowledge was limited. Disseminating knowledge about KC amongst parents could be initiated in prenatal clinic services. Besides, organisational support is required for continuing education to develop practice guidelines and protocols, to ensure the standardisation of information for HCPs for some preterm infants. Additionally, this review supports the need for future research on father’s role and involvement in KC. Further studies are needed to explore parents’ satisfaction. Finally, there is a need for more research in relation to the practice and implementation of KC in some infants. |

عنوان المشاركة: | A Conceptual Framework for a Proposed Research about Focused Ethnography on Kangaroo Care Intervention from Health Care Providers and Parents Perspectives |
ملخص المشاركة: | Introduction: Kangaroo care (KC) is an effective intervention to improve the development of preterm babies. However, despite the evidence, the global implementation of KC remains low. Health care providers (HCPs) and parents play a critical role in implementing KC. Thus, It is necessary to explore parents’ and HCPs perspectives and link them to existing theories in this context.
Aims: A proposed Conceptual Framework (CFW) for an ongoing PhD project was developed as a guide tool to explore parents’ and HCPs’ experiences, attitudes, and perceptions of KC. Methods: This proposed CFW was underpinned by: The social-ecological model (SEM) and the Family Integrated Care (FiCare) Model .The FiCare principles (the staff education and support, parent education, Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) environment, and psychosocial support) were linked into the SEM levels (the intrapersonal, interpersonal, organisational, community, and policy level) from different points. For example, the staff education and support principle was embedded in interpersonal and organisational levels and will be used as a guide to explore whether the HCPs received education about KC. Moreover, this CFW was incorporated into the ethnography approach. For example, the documentary analysis method was embedded into the policy and organisational levels to explore the KC policy and organisational processes in practice. This CFW will be used as a guide or tool to frame the reflexive thematic analysis rather than as rigid concepts imposed on the data. Results: By applying the proposed CFW, the findings of this research will provide an understanding of the experiences, perceptions of, and attitudes of HCPs and parents perspectives. Conclusion: This CFW will guide a unique methodology that has not been used previously in the KC context. Intended implications: This research intends and seeks to support the practices of KC and facilitate the future implementation of KC. |
