This paper investigates a set of approaches
for the prediction of noisy time series data; specifically, the prediction of
financial signals. A novel dynamic self-organised multilayer neural network
based on the immune algorithm for financial time series prediction is
presented, combining the properties of both recurrent and self-organised
neural networks. In an attempt to overcome inherent stability and convergence
problems, the network is derived to ensure that it reaches a unique
equilibrium state. The accuracy of the comparative evaluation is enhanced in
terms of profit earning; empirical testing used in this work includes
normalised mean square error (NMSE) to evaluate forecast fitness and also
evaluates predictions against financial metrics to assess profit generation.
Extensive simulations for multi-step prediction in stationary and
non-stationary time series were performed. The resulting forecast made by the
proposed network shows substantial profits on financial historical signals
when compared to various solely neural network approaches. These simulations
suggest that dynamic immunology-based self-organised neural networks have a
better ability to capture the chaotic movement in financial signals.

Evaluation of Business Intelligence
Maturity in the Private and Public Sectors.
|
ملخص المشاركة:
|
Background: Recently, Business Intelligence
(BI) has played an important role for organizations in terms of
organizational development. However, more than half of BI projects fail to
fully deliver features that could help organizations in their decision-making.
The BI maturity model has been used to help organizations from different
sectors to understand their maturity level and requirements for improvement
so they can achieve greater business value in the BI area.
Purpose of study: The main purpose is to complete
an initial evaluation of the developed BI maturity model to make sure that
the model is practical, and to define the influence of context and sectors on
the maturity level of BI implementation. Therefore, the model has been
applied in two organizations, one from the private and one from the public
sector, as explanatory case studies.
Research methodology: The explanatory case
study approach has been used during this stage of research. Within-case
analysis has been used to give explanations of the case by using multiple
sources, semi-structured interviews, and document review; to review which
variables of the proposed BI maturity model have been addressed and to
identify the gap. Cross-case analysis has also been used to address
similarities and differences that occur when applying the proposed BI
maturity model across the explanatory case study. As a result, the challenges
of implementing BI have been discovered in those two cases.
Result and conclusion: The analysis results
of the case studies show a significant impact of context and decision
environment on the BI maturity level in both the private and public sectors
in terms of information management practise (IMP) phases and benchmarking
variables of BI within human, organizational, and technical domains. However,
this link between the context and BI maturity levels should be considered as
a base for a new BI maturity model in future work.

Business Intelligence Maturity Models:
Information Management Perspective.
|
ملخص المشاركة:

While
Business Intelligence (BI) plays a critical role for businesses in terms of
organizational development and creating competitive advantages, many BI
projects fail to fully deliver the features and benefits that could help
organizations in their decision-making. Rather than depending on software, BI
success relies on the capabilities of sensing for appropriate information,
data collection, extraction, organization, analysis, and retention of
information due to the large volume of information that exists.
Therefore, this paper presents a
comprehensive review of existing BI maturity models and elaborates their
methodical and conceptual characteristics to determine their gaps in
addressing the information life-cycle concept in terms of sensing,
collecting, organizing, processing, and maintaining activities. As a result,
a conceptual framework is proposed from the literature analysis. The
intentions are to build a BI maturity model that can be used to increase the
success of BI implementation by basing it on Information Management Practice
(IMP), which a model built on the information life-cycle concept.

Business Intelligence Capabilities and
Implementation Strategies
|
ملخص المشاركة:
|
In recent years, Business Intelligence (BI)
has begun to play a critical role for businesses in terms of organizational
development, helping them both to improve performance and to establish
competitive advantages. However, there are many obstacles to the successful implementation
of BI. This paper will discuss the challenges of BI, examining whether the reasons
for failed implementation have been predominantly from BI capabilities or implementation
strategy which is based on business-driven or technical. A suitable conceptual
framework for the study of BI has been suggested according to set techniques
and strategies which match the purpose of this research
