Framing Risk and Uncertainty In The Context Of Projects; Perspectives On Decision-making |
ملخص المشاركة: |
Projects exist in a highly turbulent and uncertain business environment, which is affected by a myriad of internal and external factors. Under these circumstances, project managers have to make quick and rational decisions to achieve project performance objectives. While the role of external factors in the decision-making process under risk has been extensively examined in the existing body of management literature, internal factors have been largely overlooked. In this paper, the authors attempt to synthesise knowledge from the previous academic and scholarly literature on the topic of decision-making under risk and uncertainty in the context of project management. Specifically, the issues of intra-group conflicts, project managers’ perceptions of uncertainty, and the contribution of project managers’ individual characteristics to the decision-making process are explored and critically discussed. The authors also discuss the future of decision-making in project management and the role of technological advancements, such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML) in the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the decision-making process. |

A literature review on the Framing of Risk and Uncertainty in Project Manager’s Decision-Making |
ملخص المشاركة: |
Purpose – The objective of this research is to present a literature review on the framing of risk and uncertainty in project mangers’ decision – making. Design/methodology/approach – A review of excising study based on the constructivist conceptual lens is employed this is to enable us deduce how the influence of risk and uncertainty on project decision are socially constructed in an intra-group project team at the implementation stage of project life-cycle. 52 papers from 2016 – 2020 scaled through the inclusion and exclusion criteria to full reading and review. Review Findings Highlights – The review helps to highlight the project managers’ behaviour and disposition to risk and uncertainty when faced with project decision-making. The fact that all managers are willing to make the best decisions, they do not have the ideal resources to take fully informed and effective decisions. During the Decision-making stages, managers define the problem by considering its symptoms and based on the available resources. |
